12th March: "World Day against Internet censorship"

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) calls for the third year in a row on the "World Day Against Internet Censorship" 12 March on. The anniversary was launched by Reporters Without Borders, to make on the world wide extent of Internet censorship attention.

Some 120 bloggers and online activists worldwide in custody
The commitment to free expression on the Internet is more necessary today than ever before. In many countries the Internet has a new space for the exchange of ideas and information created and evolved into a force for freedom.

More and more governments have responded with an increased on-line monitoring in order to bring critical bloggers, online journalists and Internet users to silence. About 120 Blogger and online activists are also currently in prison around the world because they have expressed their views freely on the Internet.

"Netizen Award"
again this year, Reporters Without Borders on 12 March 2011 published another report entitled "Internet enemies". It is states with massive on-line monitoring named and investigated the current control and censorship on the World Wide Web extensively.

The report also addresses the recent events in Tunisia and Egypt and the role of the Internet during the protests and the dissemination of news.

On the eve of Day of Action - Friday, 11 March - Reporters Without Borders is also another blogger Online-Journalisten oder Cyber-Aktivisten für dessen Engagement für Meinungsfreiheit im Internet auszeichnen. Die feierliche Übergabe des so genannten "Netizen-Preises" wird an dem Tag ab 18.30 Uhr in Paris stattfinden.
